A co-worker and I were discussing the intensification of solicitation for giving to charity during the holiday season (which, honestly, is also sometimes fueled by the benefit of an income tax break for the current year). At any rate, it reminds us of something we tend to just passively consider during the rest of the year: giving to causes we believe are important to the health and well-being of the Earth and all of its inhabitants. We were thinking that it would be beneficial to create a list of charities with a mission for environmentally-friendly/sustainable goals. Here are just a few to start; I plan for this to be an active list, which will grow over time.
- The non-profit organization founded in 1991 has a mission to innovate, invest and inspire visionary thinking that creates economic opportunities, resilient communities as well as environmental prosperity.
- The over 40 year organization’s rooted mission is to protect and preserve the natural system guided by science and economics. The organization works in concert with other organizations to resolve the critical environmental problems we are facing today by always keeping in mind their core values of results, respect, innovation, optimism and integrity.
- Founded in 1892 The Sierra Club stands as America’s largest and most prominent grassroots environmental organization. Some of their greatest successes range from helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Acts while also helping to protect millions of acres of wilderness.
The Wildlife Conservation Network
